At the Council hearing held on 28th of April 2022, the National Energy Regulatory Council (NERC) decided to approve the request of the transmission system operator LITGRID AB and to approve that the 1 MW, 1 MWh energy storage system installed on the territory of the 330/110/10 kV Vilnius transformer station and connected to the 10 kV substation of the Vilnius transformer station be considered as a fully integrated network component. NERC has authorized the company to own, develop, manage or operate this battery energy storage system.
NERC also ruled that the 1 MW, 1 MWh energy storage system may only be used to ensure a secure and reliable operation of the transmission or distribution system and may not be used for balancing or congestion management.
